Lavender & Lace - A Lesson in Relaxation
The rhythmic clack of knitting needles, the soothing soft aroma of lavender and a sampling of honey wine (mead) - the perfect atmosphere for relaxation! Take a deep breath of the fresh, salt-scented air of rural PEI. You're ready to discover the magical world of knitting lace! If you've always been intrigued, mystified and maybe a little nervous about lace knitting, this is for you. Spend a little time learning and practising the simple lace techniques using beautifully soft, organically dyed wool from PEI's Fleece and Harmony Mill. Discover why we use lavender in our "Ewe Love" line and how you and your woollens will benefit from lavender. You'll take home a skein of Fleece and Harmony wool in your choice of colour and an original Knit Pickers pattern for fingerless lace mittens. ?We'll visit La Serena Farm where Charles and Laura grow lavender. Their sheep keep the farm manicured and their honey bees not only pollinate the organic fruit, they provide the honey for the farm's award-winning meadery "The Island Honey Wine Company". A tour of the farm (weather permitting) will wrap up with a sampling of honey mead. Perhaps your favourite will be Lavender Mead, a perfect accompaniment to PEI's tasty lobster and oysters. "Lavender and Lace" is offered every Thursday from 1 pm to 4 pm from June 20th to October 10th, 2019. Space is limited - advance registration is required to reserve your spot. Price: $65.00 (+HST) per person. Have your own double-pointed needles? Bring them along! If not - we have, available to purchase, a lovely selection of birch needles, handcrafted in Atlantic Canada. **Note: Basic knitting skills (how to knit and purl stitches) are required. Location: Knit Pickers PEI, 566 Line Road, Mayfield PE

Looms, Lambs & Lobster
A mix of Scottish and Acadian cultures, a mix of the Island's farming and fishing history await! Your first stop will be at the Knit Pickers studio, located just minutes away from Cavendish Beach and nestled in the rolling hills of Mayfield. Learning to knit has never been so easy! Margaret, an internationally recognized knitter and weaver, will share with you the tips and techniques to knit a perfect hat and scarf. You'll wind your wool, cast on your first project and try your hand at a few different stitches on an old-style knitting loom. And - you will take home your own wooden knitting loom which has been hand-made in PEI. Your next stop is a short jaunt down the road to Ferme Isle Saint-Jean, a farm where Knit Pickers sources some of its local wool. Gabriel and Deirdre Mercier have family histories of farming and award-winning cheese-making. Together, they make the most delicious grilling cheese and yoghurt - tasty sheep's milk products that are not made anywhere else in the Maritimes! Try a sample and learn a little about farming, sheep's milk cheese and yoghurt - uniquely PEI! Wrap up your Looms, Lambs and Lobster adventure at Captain's Cove Cafe in North Rustico. Watch the fishing boats while you enjoy a lobster roll or lobster salad for lunch. You won't find seafood fresher than this! Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions or special considerations when you register. "Looms, Lambs and Lobster" is offered every Wednesday and Friday from 10:15 am - 2 pm from June 5th to September 27th, 2019. Space is limited - we suggest that you register to reserve your spot.
